Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the High School Sports Beat, brought to you by Alfred State College. Many thanks to Alfred State College for sponsoring the Sports Beat, and helping to bring weekly coverage of Section V High School Sports to broadcast on 13 WHAM.
Now, here’s your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors. It’s Week 22 of the season, and the Winter sports season is starting to wind down, just as actual winter roars again in Rochester.
We begin this week with the Selects Academy hockey team at Bishop Kearney. The girls on the team live on campus and attend classes at BK, but play most of their games around the country.
Part of the Legacy Global Hockey program, Selects BK opened its season last September. They have played games across the country and Canada including stops at the Fraser Hockeyland in Michigan and the Kitchener Auditorium Complex.

We present to you now an expanded ‘Director’s Cut’ of our profile…
13 WHAM’s Matt Trabold joins us for the Dunkin High School Notebook. Matt and Dave Yates talk some Section V basketball, where 3 teams are carrying on this season after losing a significant graduating senior… Pittsford Sutherland and Lyons on the boys side, and in this extended web-version, the girls of Batavia…
The Section V Spotlight is up next, highlighting some Section V stars, including from the coaching ranks, like Rush-Henrietta’s Chris Reed…
Our top story this week takes us to Eastridge, where the Lancers are having an impressive season, led by Senior Tony Arnold. For an East Irondequoit program that hasn’t won a sectional title since 1964, the emergence of “Tony Buckets” is putting the Lancers on the short list of this year’s potential brick holders…
And that’s a wrap on week 22 of Season 9! Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 8 years. From February 1, 2012 – a story on the then 5th Annual RAP Basketball tournament, covering two games – Franklin vs Penfield, and Greece Arcadia vs Eastridge. Our first Sports Beat look at the Lancers hoops squad, led then by Supreme Hannah. The story also features a 24 point, MVP performance from Arcadia’s Steven Klimek – who we profiled last season for his exploits in the Minor Leagues with the Baltimore Orioles.
[…] A1 Finals between cross-town rivals… Irondequoit and Eastridge. We covered the Lancers earlier this year, and it was the day after a tough loss to the Eagles. It seemed like destiny that the Lancers […]
