Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the High School Sports Beat, brought to you by Alfred State College. Many thanks to Alfred State College for sponsoring the Sports Beat, and helping to bring weekly coverage of Section V High School Sports to broadcast on 13 WHAM.
Now, here’s your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors. It’s Week 17 of the season, and the first episode of 2020!
We begin this week at the SERC on the campus of The College at Brockport, for a Section V Indoor Track meet. We were on hand to see the University Prep Boys trackteam, led by first-year coach Brian Smith. The former standout at Greece Athena has a fast team, with some new additions this year that are taking the top spots in the 55m dash and the 4 x 200 relay.
13 WHAM’s Matt Trabold joins us for the Dunkin High School Notebook. Matt and Dave Yates talk Section V Boys basketball, and two early candidates for game of the season – Uprep vs Leadership Academy, and Eastridge vs Hilton…
The Section V Spotlight is up next, highlighting some Section V stars, including an update on Aquinas grad Jamir Jones…
Our top story of the week takes us to Bishop Kearney, for the start of their annual Holiday Showcase. This year, the Kings are raising awareness and funds for the fight versus cancer – and in doing so, honored two women for their battle. Tayahja Scott is a sophomore guard for the visiting Notthingham team, and Suzanne O’Neil is the wife of long-time Bishop Kearney CEO, Tom O’Neil.
We present to you now, a director’s cut of our story, BK vs Cancer…
And that’s a wrap on week 17 of Season 9! Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.
