Sports Beat Insider – Nov. 23, 2019

Go Inside the Sports Beat with Gates-Chili Unified Bowling and the Greece Olympia Girls Soccer ‘Road to Cortland’

Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the High School Sports Beat, brought to you by Alfred State College.  Many thanks to Alfred State College for joining the Sports Beat family, and helping to bring weekly coverage of Section V High School Sports to broadcast on 13 WHAM.

Now, here’s your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.  It’s week 11 of the season, and the wrap up of the Fall sports calendar…

We begin at Sunset Lanes in Gates, where the Spencerport Unified Bowling team was visiting the hosts from Gates-Chili.  It’s the first season of Unified Bowling for the Spartans, and our first time covering it for the Sports Beat.  It was great to see the support of the Gates-Chili community for these athletes, and it was evident from all the smiling faces, that Unified Bowling, as a sport, is here to stay.

13 WHAM’s Matt Trabold joins us for the Dunkin High School Notebook.  Matt and Dave Yates talk about the remaining Section V Football teams playing at States – McQuaid and Canandaigua.

Kyle O’Gara is up next with this week’s Making the Grade nominee… and, as always, if you have a candidate for our Making the Grade segment, send us an email to MTG@RocSportsNow.com or fill-in our contact form.

The Section V Spotlight is up next, highlighting some of the accomplishments of Section V athletes, teams and coaches.

Our top story of the week takes us to TSE in Gates, where the Greece Olympia girls soccer team was practicing, in preparation for a trip to Cortland for States.  It was a cold and snowy day, so TSE was filled with activity… the field next to where the Spartans practiced was occupied by McQuaid football, while just on the other side of the facility was the Athena boys soccer team.

And that’s a wrap on week 10 of Season 9!  Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

Follow the High School Sports Beat on Twitter, and be sure to check back here each Monday for the latest Insider!

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 8 years. From May 28, 2016 – our first story on Unified Sports saw us cover the Churchville-Chili Unified Basketball team, in a game versus the Webster Unified squad.
