Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the Vision High School Sports Beat, your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.
Happy Holidays! It’s Week 16 of the Sports Beat season, and Christmas comes each time this year… We’ll take an abbreviated look at the program this week – and nothing says “Yuletide Cheer” like hockey.
We begin with the Royal Comets Ice Hockey team. They represent Rush-Henrietta, and starting this season, two additional schools – World of Inquiry and the School of the Arts. It’s the beginnings of a merger with the Rochester City School District, one that has been a long time in the making. We spoke with Carlos Cotto, the Athletic Director for the City Schools, and can tell you that this is more than a fad. Efforts are being made to get city kids into hockey at the youth/beginner level, with the hopes of much more participation, down the road. For now, it’s three students – one from School 58, and two from SOTA – carrying the mantle of “City Hockey”. And that’s the first time since the 70’s that you can say that.
We now present to you an extended cut of “Emerging Sport”.
Paul Gotham sits down with Dave Yates for the Dunkin Donuts High School Notebook next. Paul has the details on Northstar Christian’s recent trip to Cleveland, which may not have gone exactly as scheduled, but will be a trip the team will never forget.
Kim Berntson is back with Making the Grade – this week honoring Kara Oatman from HFL. Kara was nominated thru our website, which remains a great way for you to tell us about a student-athlete, and the contributions they have made this year. Drop us a line at info@classywolf.com or fill out our contact page…
Our Section V Spotlight is next – and celebrates some of the accomplishments at the Monroe County Championships in Section V Wrestling.
Our main story takes us to Spencerport, where the Rangers have turned the tide – going from One win over the last two seasons, to a record of 7 – 1 at the time of our story.
And that’s a wrap on week 16! Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.
Follow the High School Sports Beat on Twitter, and be sure to check back here each Monday for the latest Insider!
We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 7 years. From February 8, 2012 – Continuing the hockey theme, it’s the Pink the Rink game between Fairport and Pittsford. A great game for a great cause…
[…] The change-over of sports seasons each year is an opportunity for us to look back at some of our favorite stories of the just completed season. In this case, as we wait for the spring sports season, and hope for weather that allows for the outdoor sports, we take a look back to week 16 of this season. […]
