The Press Box, presented by the Genesee Brew House, airing September 22/23, 2018. Hosted by Bill Pucko, with guests Mike Catalana (13 WHAM Sports), Pat Duffy (WCMF Breakroom) and Dan Moriarty – formerly of the Dan Moriarty Show on FOX Sports 1280.
Dan was last on the show August 4th, for our 300th episode spectacular. Dan has been a regular on the show since it’s inception… here he is in August 2014 talking about the absence of Professional Golf in Rochester…
Does that clip fore-shadow Dan’s Unfinished Business? Perhaps…
We begin this week talking about Vontae Davis… It’s rare for a professional athlete to quit in the middle of a game. And it somehow seems fitting it would happen to this Bills team, at this time (the struggle is real). No athlete wants to hang around past their prime, and when it does happen – see 1973 Willie Mays – it’s the stuff of infamy. The panel pretty much agrees, wondering why Vontae couldn’t wait 30 minutes to “retire”.
Next up, the Bills talk continues, with the looming game against the Vikings providing a talking point… or 17 points, like the points given to the Bills by Vegas. Time to point out after 2 weeks, our NFL Pick em contest looks like this…
Dan, over the past 2 seasons, has gone 3 – 7 in his NFL picks. Last week’s guest, Josh Whetzel, went 0 – 2, getting stung badly by picking Arizona against LA (Rams won 44 – 0).
Like it or Not this week pertains to two big returns: Urban Meyer back on the field for Ohio State, and Aaron Judge back in the lineup for the Yankees. We often refer to the conversations prior to taping as our “pre-game”… this week it was dominated by talk of the Bills, but a few weeks ago Urban Meyer generated a lot of comments. I’m not sure everyone expected him to return at all. Also, each team Urban makes a statement, Nick Sabin looks better and better. Or, as Pat so eloquently puts it, “Just shut up!”
Next, Dan Moriarty, a Yankees fan, talks the return of Aaron Judge. The Yanks are still headed for a wild card showdown with the Oakland Athletics, but doubts have crept in the last few weeks, if they will be able to secure home-field for that 1-game wildcard matchup. Having Judge back certainly helps. You could argue, of course, getting better pitching would help more.
Unfinished Business this week begins with a warning. The views and opinions on The Press Box are the expressed views of the panelists and do not reflect the views of Classy Wolf Media or the shows producers. And now, here’s Pat Duffy making the case for Ryan Fitzpatrick as a Hall of Famer. The Professional Football Hall of Fame. Ryan. Fitzpatrick.
Next, Dan Moriarty is in a mood to talk golf. We already know his love of golf stems from the LPGA tour in Rochester (you did watch that clip from 2014 right?) – here Dan breaks down just how important it is to have a competitive Tiger Woods back in the hunt.
Finally, Mike Catalana addresses a question that you hear pretty much every football season. Could the best team in College Football, beat the worst team in the NFL? This year, that means Alabama playing the Buffalo Bills? Don’t worry though, Mike thinks that’s one game the Bills could win.
That’s the show for this week. Thanks to Dan for joining us again. Next week, Mike Catalana is on assignment (“tv term” for ‘unavailable’), so look forward to Pat Duffy having a new sparring partner.
