Press Box Insider July 22, 2018

Review the latest Press Box episode with the producer, and get the Insider Scoop

The Press Box presented by the Genesee Brew House airing July 21/22 2018.  Hosted by Bill Pucko, with guests Pat Duffy (WCMF Breakroom), Paul Gotham (PickinSplinters.com) and JC DeLass (WYSL Radio).

The show this week kicked off with a discussion on “The State of MLB” – Pucko shared his feelings, that after watching a 10-home run and 23 strikeout All-Star Game, that baseball had maybe peaked a few year ago, and was now on a decline.  All or nothing, HR’s or K’s – is in his opinion, a game that is easy to tire of.

Bill, as most viewers are aware of by now, is a Massachusetts native, and life-long Red Sox fan.  As producer of the show, I too, am a Red Sox fan.  Let’s just say, one of us is still very happy about the current state of baseball.  (It’s me.  I like it.  I like it a lot.)

Next the discussion moved to LeSean McCoy, and the what the Buffalo Bills were going to do.  As we tape the Press Box on Wednesdays, there is always a chance that news may break after we tape(and often does) – so with topics like the McCoy situation, we have to keep it ‘big picture’.

‘Like it or Not’ this week had two topics – the 2018 World Cup, and news of TO making a comeback in the CFL.  A 3rd topic was scheduled, but was cut for time.  That would have been a discussion on the Pegulas taking control of the Blue Cross Arena – something we may revisit in the future, as it’s certainly a topic that will be talked about.  Renovations aside, a lot of questions remain.

Paul Gotham spoke about the World Cup, and followers of Pickin Splinters are already aware that Paul follows soccer more than most.

Duffy had (Not) surprisingly a lot to say about Terrell Owens.  Some of it factually wrong (sorry Pat, TO’s rights belonged to the Edmonton Eskimos – tho Duffy may have been clairvoyant, as the Eskimos, mere hours ago, released his rights, making TO a CFL Free Agent)

Unfinished Business is the part of the show that has the most potential – just one person’s perspective about something important to them, in that moment.  A chance to set the record straight, or enlighten us all to something we may have missed.  Paul led off with one of those moments – the 6 hour marathon match in the men’s semifinals at Wimbledon.

Next up, Duffy delivered another classic… the Bills QB situation has him a little anxious.

JC DeLass sat in the 4th chair this week.  It’s a spot held by many over the almost 7 seasons of the Press Box.  From Jim Kelly to Abby Wambach, from Steve Hausmann to Mike Quade.  We always appreciate having JC on the show, because he brings attention to some things we may not get enough coverage of… Golf, Horse Racing, Tennis to name a few… this week JC talked a hot topic coming out of this year’s All-Star Game.

That’s the show… thanks to everyone for appearing, and on to the next one.   Here’s a link to the full episode – check it out, and leave us a comment or follow @TheRocPressBox on twitter to send a comment.
