2023 NASCAR Preview: Week 13 – Darlington

Happy Mother’s Day, Lady in Black!

Kansas saw a lot of tough driving and punches thrown, now we’re at Darlington where drivers will feel like putting their fist through a wall after picking up a Darlington Stripe. It is called the Track Too Tough to Tame for a reason, and today we’re going to see who gets the best handle on it.

Here’s what to look for:

Martin Truex Jr. (one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers!) will start from Pole today, and he’s got the third most points of active drivers over the last ten races. Last year, Truex finished 24th after starting 4th.

Joey Logano (one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers!) was our winner last Spring after starting from Pole. He started from the Pole in the Fall, too, but then could only manage a 4th place finish. He’s already got a lot more cars to pass this week, starting 15th. His average finish of 8.7 is second best over the last ten races.

Erik Jones picked up his second Darlington Win last Fall in just ten races, and looks to be in the hunt for another one today. He was very strong in Practice, but will begin his race in 28th. He was a bit under the weather the other day, we’ll see if Sunday ends up better than Saturday.

Kevin Harvick has seven Top 5s and nine Top 10s in the last ten Darlington races. Pretty incredible! He’s got a lot of tracks “on lock” like that; today he’ll start 20th.

Justin Haley had an unexpected 3rd place finish last Spring, not sure where that came from! Whatever the case, we’ll have to keep an eye on him today as an underdog, he’s had a really good start to the 2023 season.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there today. I hope you have a great one!

Coverage of the Darlington race starts on FS1 at 3:00pm, green flag scheduled for 3:12pm.
