2020 NASCAR Preview: Week 4 – Phoenix

West Coast Swing concludes today, one more time among the cactus!

Bowman the Showman lived up to his moniker last week in California, leading 110 laps en route to his 2nd career Cup victory. Today the boys move onto Phoenix for their final race out West for this portion of the season.

Here’s what to look for:

-Chase Elliott was quickest on Saturday, starting 1st in the Fan Shield 500. His last time here (Fall ’19), he came home 39th. Chase will no doubt like the view he has today, and will look to improve upon that less than stellar outing. His best finish is 2nd, and has also finished 3rd; time to shoot for the top of the podium.

-Kevin Harvick was riding a 2.7 average finish over his last ten Phoenix races, but after a 9th and 5th last year, his numbers have worsened to 3.9. Think about that; he’s so good here that a Top 5 and a Top 10 have dropped him, haha. Can Happy “rebound” today and get back to his winning ways? He’s starting 2nd, and has 8 Top 5s since 2015. Wow.

-Denny Hamlin was our winner in the Fall, no doubt getting the rub from his teammates prior success here. He is 3rd best among drivers over the last ten with a 10.9 average, and starts 3rd today, too. Hamlin finished 5th last Spring, is he due for another Top 5 today?

-Kyle Busch claimed victory at this race last year, and finished runner-up in the Fall. He’s got a 1.5 average finish over the last four races (with two Wins), and a 2.9 over the last ten. Rowdy has made this his stomping ground, and now that the Championship will be decided at this track in the Fall, the #18 team will look to improve upon an already excellent setup.

-Kyle Larson has finished 3-6-4 since the Fall of 2018, one of three drivers with a streak of three Top 10s, and the other two are already on this list. He carried an 11.9 average over the last ten races, 5th best among active drivers; starting 4th, expect that average to only get better today.

The race food has been all the rage over here the past few weeks, and today we’ve got another good one in store. Next up..

Chimichangas! They’re like an official food of Arizona and stuff! The recipe will be altered a little bit by my girl, putting her own twist on it as she so greatly does. Busy day with hockey tournaments so they aren’t quite ready, but they’ll hop out of the fryer and into stomachs later. Looking forward to it!
