Sports Beat Insider – Dec. 14, 2019

Go Inside the Sports Beat with Section V Football Recruitment Night, and McQuaid’s State Finals game at the Dome

Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the High School Sports Beat, brought to you by Alfred State College.  Many thanks to Alfred State College for sponsoring the Sports Beat, and helping to bring weekly coverage of Section V High School Sports to broadcast on 13 WHAM.

Now, here’s your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.  It’s week 14 of the season, and we have just a couple of stories left to tell about the Fall Season…

We begin with the 20th Annual Recruitment Night, put on by Section V Football and event organizer George Giordano.  It’s a great opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to meet face-to-face with college coaches, and ask questions and make first contact.  Almost 30 schools attended, and athletes flowed in to the RIT Inn and Conference Center all night.  It was a great scene, and an even better experience for our Section V athletes.

We now present to you an ‘extended’ Director’s Cut…

13 WHAM’s Matt Trabold joins us for the Dunkin High School Notebook.  Matt and Dave Yates talk Section V Girls Basketball, and two teams to watch: Pittsford Mendon and Gates-Chili.  Plus, a few words on the boys from East High, who are making an early statement this year.

Kyle O’Gara is up next with this week’s Making the Grade  segment, … and, as always, if you have a candidate for our Making the Grade segment, send us an email to MTG@RocSportsNow.com or fill-in our contact form.  This week, we honor Fairport’s Jake Knapp.

The Section V Spotlight is up next, highlighting some Section V stars, including two All-American’s, in Greece Athena’s Dylan Rice, and Marion’s Chloe DeLyser…

Our top story this week is on the final game of the football season… the Class AA State Finals at the Carrier Dome.  The McQuaid Jesuit Knights ranked 4th, took on the 2nd ranked New Rochelle Huguenots.  McQuaid had a historic run to make it to it’s First State Final game, and while the result wasn’t what they had hoped for, the run to the big game at the Dome was one they never will forget…

And that’s a wrap on week 14 of Season 9!  Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

Follow the High School Sports Beat on Twitter, and be sure to check back here each Monday for the latest Insider!

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 8 years. From October 18, 2014 – a look at Dave Hennessey of Penfield Track and Field.  Coach Hen is celebrating 1000 duel meet cross country victories at Penfield. He is one of a kind, in “Hen Hits 1000.”
