Sports Beat Insider – Oct. 5, 2019

Go Inside the Sports Beat with McQuaid Invitational and Spencerport Boys Soccer

Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the High School Sports Beat, brought to you by Alfred State College.  Many thanks to Alfred State College for joining the Sports Beat family, and helping to bring weekly coverage of Section V High School Sports to broadcast on 13 WHAM.

Now, here’s your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.  It’s week 4 of the season, and the action is heating up…

We start this week with a look at the McQuaid Invitational Cross Country event.  It’s the 55th annual McQuaid Invite, and not only is the race one of the largest in the country, it’s also one of the most anticipated events on the high school sports calendar.

Tariq Spence, from WDKX, and videographer Kyle O’Gara bring you this story, presented here in an extended ‘Director’s Cut’…

13 WHAM’s Matt Trabold joins us for the Dunkin High School Notebook.  Matt and Dave Yates talk Section V Football, and the impressive starts from Uprep and Wilson Magnet.

Kyle O’Gara is up next with this week’s Making the Grade nominee… and, as always, if you have a candidate for our Making the Grade segment, send us an email to MTG@RocSportsNow.com or fill-in our contact form.  This week, we honor Melissa Pauly, from the Hilton Cross Country and Track teams.

The Section V Spotlight is up next, highlighting some of the accomplishments of Section V athletes, teams and coaches.

Our top story of the week takes us to Spencerport, where the Boys Soccer team reeled off a streak of 7 straight wins after an opening season loss.  Part of the turnaround, is first-year Coach Jody Wyant -who coached under Jamie Schneider as part of the very successful Girls soccer program at Spencerport.

And that’s a wrap on week 4 of Season 9!  Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

Follow the High School Sports Beat on Twitter, and be sure to check back here each Monday for the latest Insider!

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 8 years. From October 4, 2014 – a different look at a familiar event, as Bill Pucko and videographer Jeff Baron explore the “Canines of Cross Country” – that’s right, a story on all the wonderful dogs at Genesee Valley Park for the McQuaid Invite.
