Welcome to this week’s breakdown of the Vision High School Sports Beat, your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.
Happy New Year! It’s Week 17 of the Sports Beat season, and we say good-bye to 2018 with a brand new episode.
We begin with a spring sport – Girls lacrosse. It was a signing day event at Total Sports Experience in Gates, and four members of the Spencerport Girls Lacrosse team were signing the dotted line on Division I college commitments. Natalie Choate at UMass-Lowell, Erin Coykendall at Northwestern University, Camryn Sack at Duquesne and Olivia Wall at Cornell University. We’ve known about Erin’s future at Nortwestern for some time, in fact -here’s Bill Pucko asking her about it in February 2017:
And here’s our story on Spencerport’s Fab Four…
Paul Gotham and Dave Yates look back at just some of the top topics from 2018 in this week’s Dunkin Donuts High School Notebook. It’s not possible to mention everything – but past episodes of the High School Notebook can be watched anytime on the Classy Wolf Media Youtube page.
Our Section V Spotlight is next, with a mention of the great career of Rush-Henrietta Wrestling Coach Mickey Marlowe as he celebrates 25 years of coaching. We met Coach Marlowe last January in a story profiling RH’s Tillich brothers.
Our main story of the week takes us to Hilton, where the Boys Swim team is looking to establish themselves. The Cadets have just one Senior on the squad, but Coach Jeff Sadowski has been building something special – a program. Youth, and time, is on their side.
And that’s a wrap on week 17! Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 7 years. From December 13, 2014 – we take a look back at the Greece Athena Trojans basketball team, led by Coach Jim Johnson, and then sophomore Anthony Lamb. A talent-laden team looking to defend a sectional title. Lamb now stars at Vermont, Jay Sarkis is at Daeman College, Brendan Wind is at Nazareth… to name a few.
