Sports Beat Insider – September 29, 2018

Go Inside Week 4 of the High School Sports Beat with Dave Yates

Welcome to the another breakdown of the Vision High School Sports Beat, your behind the scenes look at the production, from the producer and the shows many contributors.  It’s week 4 of the season, and this week we are on location, from Vision Hyundai in Webster.  It’s always great to take the show on the road, and Vision Automotive has been a great supporter, and title sponsor, for the last 7 seasons.

And, being on location – you never know who you may run into…

We begin this week’s episode with the East Rochester boys soccer team, led by Head Coach Mike Domm.  The former Ragin’ Rhino, Domm had been rising in the coaching ranks at the college level, when an opportunity to coach his two sons at East Rochester arose.  We went to film the story for a Friday night game versus Aquinas.  When we arrived at 5:15, it was 93 degrees.  Then the storm hit.  The 7pm came never got started, finally being called off around 8:30 pm due to consistent lightning. Paul Gotham was able to cover the make-up game the following night.  So, our story features footage from the team warming up on Friday, with storm clouds a’brewing… and game footage from Saturday.  Also, the show was running long this week, so we present to you, the extended ‘director’s cut’…

Our Making the Grade nominee this week was Emma Arnold from Pal-Mac.  Emma is a 3-year varsity player for the Red Raiders, while maintaining a high average and multiple club commitments.

If you have a student in mind for our making the grade segment, we want your nominations! Send them in to info@classywolf.com or fill-out our contact form.

Next up is the Section V Spotlight –

The Varsity Media plays of the Week for Week 4 of the Section V season…
Our next story is about Brighton Senior Sam Julian.  Sam was diagnosed with thyroid cancer this July.  Surgery and treatment followed.  His senior season playing football was in doubt.  But Sam didn’t give up, and made it all the way back to the field.  An inspiring story, and we were there for Brighton’s homecoming game vs Gates-Chili.
Here is the extended ‘director’s cut’ of Sam’s Homecoming…

And that’s a wrap on week 3!  Be sure to check out the full episode– and tune in Every Saturday night on 13 WHAM after the late news, and on Sundays at Noon.

We leave you this week, with an Insider weekly feature – looking back at some of our stories from the past 7 years.  From November 2, 2011 a look at the Greece Odyssey Girls soccer team, then coach by Nino Pilato.  The story of the 3-time sectional champs focused heavily on the numerous injuries and surgeries the Leopards had overcome.  Featured players include Liz Dohr, Emily Tucker  and Katie Wilbur.
