Pete Seeger and the Buffalo Bills

September 11, 2021

Name dropping.  I was talking to Rochester Music Hall of Famer John Dady last week and he told me of the time he met one of his idols… folk music legend Pete Seeger… and actually got to play with him.  One of the real thrills of John’s life.  I asked him when that was… Dady said it was the same day the Buffalo Bills beat the New England Patriots for the first time in 16 years.  It was 2011.  That was his frame of reference.  For John Dady, it was the perfect day.  He got to jam with Pete Seeger.  And the Bills beat the Patriots.

There are times when the things we talk about here seem amazingly trivial.  And sometimes they are.  But sometimes they’re not.  We mark time with events such as that Bills win over New England ten years ago.  Its why history and sports are so intertwined.   And its why the things we talk about here do occasionally matter.
