The one that got away. You know. She was charming. Engaging. Smart. She had an ‘it’ quality. And a smile that stretched into next week. You thought it would last forever. Even now you don’t know why it didn’t. But it didn’t and she’s not coming back.
And what’s worse. She remains out there. Those familiar habits. That smile. Performing for others.
That’s what it’s like for a Boston Red Sox fan to watch Mookie Betts play for the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Performing for others. He’s not coming back. And you hate your team a little bit for allowing it to happen. The one that got away.
