2023 NASCAR Preview: Week 16 – Sonoma

Another week, more twists and turns in NASCAR…

Off to a road course today, and this is the final race on FOX of the season. We’ll return with the NBC family of coverage after Father’s Day weekend (which is now a BYE week). Not there yet though, we’ve got a race just about to start!

Here’s what to look for:

Denny Hamlin — not really known for his road course prowess — is our Polesitter today. He’s got an average start of 12.5 and an average finish of 16.2; seems like he’ll be finishing better today, too!

Daniel Suarez was last year’s winner, and looks to defend today. He made it to the final round of Qualifying and will roll off 9th today. Suarez is very determined though!

Martin Truex Jr. has won this race a few times, including back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. He’ll disembark from the 8th position, but will work towards the front very soon, no doubt.

Chase Elliott is back from suspension, and he’s ready to go! Road courses are his bread and butter, and he desperately needs a Win this season to make the Playoffs. Even though he’s one of the best on the circuit right now, he actually doesn’t have a trophy at Sonoma yet. He has, however, finished 8th and 2nd the last two years respectively.

Michael McDowell has been running very hard recently, and he’s actually very well attuned to road course racing. He’ll be starting 3rd today, and will no doubt be driving the bumper off whomever is in front of him, should there be any who manage to stay there!

Coverage of the race today starts on FOX at 3:30pm, green flag scheduled for 3:50pm.
